H. 'Reaching New Heights' a 2012 introduction by Bobby Baxter

H. 'Reaching New Heights'
(Baxter, 2011)

H. 'Reaching New Heights' is not only one of my daylilies. "Reaching New Heights" is also a motivational statement and goal of Daylilies of North Carolina.

As a flower, H. 'Reaching New Heights', registered at 68", is one of the tallest daylilies of all time. The AHS Registration Database shows 43 registered cultivars of 68" or higher, and only 10 registered cultivars of 74" or higher. In 2010 & 2011, it exceeded 74" in my garden.

Motivationally, "Reaching New Heights" guides my hybridizing and passion for the daylily. As the leading hybridizer of high percentage (over 51%) polymerous daylilies with more than 20 registrations I am also an advocate of encouraging the promotion and advanced development of the form. By pricing my polymerous daylilies affordably and sharing information freely, I believe more daylily fanciers will grow & enjoy the polys, and more gardeners will be hybridizing them.

I also challenge hybridizers of the spider form of hemerocallis to work toward "eight-legged" spiders as genuine arachnids have.

Hemerocallis ‘Status Update’ (Baxter, 2011)

Hemerocallis 'Status Update'’ is a 55% polymerous 2012 introduction.

H. 'Status Update'... (Baxter, 2011), Sdlg. #029, Diploid, 55% Polymerous, 7 ½" bloom, 27" tall, semi-evergreen. This soft pinkish-lavender flower has a nicely contrasting eye, always opens wonderfully, and is a joy to see in the garden each day. The color is clean and clear. During the 2011 season it was closer to 80% polymerous and during 2012 it was closer to 75% polymerous rather than its registered status of 55% that I recorded during the 2010 season. Also, the scape height has been 35" the past two seasons compared to its registered 27".

H. 'Status Update' is another great plant for hybridizers. It has fabulous pollen and is another one of my easy pod setters. I can't stress the importance of acquiring easy pod setting high polymerous daylilies for those working on advancing the development of polymerous daylilies.

Obviously, the name of the flower comes from the continuing Facebook fad of people giving "status updates" throughout the day. Yes, Daylilies of North Carolina is on Facebook, too.

Surprising, H. 'Status Update' is one of my more difficult flowers to photograph as you will notice below when viewing the multiple images and seeing the variations of color under different light conditions and times of the day..
