BLUE
FLAG FARM
OPEN
GARDEN DAY THE GARDEN CONSERVANCY Welcome to BLUE FLAG FARM -- named for masses of Iris versicolor in the pastures -- an old New England Farm. An 18th century cape next to the Pendleton Hill Brook overlooks the stone walls and tall oaks. In the fields among glacial outcrops are beds containing 600 varieties of daylilies; large flowered as well as small, minis, spiders and ufo's from many hybridizers including Pat and Grace Stamile, Jim Murphy and Margo Reed, George Doorakian and many regional hybridizers. Perennials, shrubs and annuals accompany the daylilies for harmony and contrast such as delphinium, poppies, roses, salvias, clematis, nasturtium, herbs and coleus.
Tettacotta tub
I like to feature unusual combinations with daylilies. Xanthosoma 'LimeZinger', Strobilanthes, Perilla, lemon lime Nasturtium, plus KNOW THE CODE (F. Bennett). Margo Reed's ROCKY HORROR and Darrel Apps' CINDERELLA'S DARK SIDE.
Fuchsia 'Gartenmeister Bohnstedt' with coleus variety 'India Frills' and variegated curly ivy. Garden Bench Blue
